A surgeon and geriatrician, Dr. Emily Finlayson is a national leader making surgery safer for older adults. At UCSF, she directs the Center for Surgery in Older Adults, an interdisciplinary team of researchers, educators, and care providers dedicated to improving care for this growing population. Dr. Finlayson recognizes that translating research into practice requires culture change. Her recent work has addressed this challenge in national studies and by developing mobile technologies. The latter are the focus of her visit to MCL.
Dr. Finlayson earned her medical degree at Harvard Medical School and trained surgically at UCSF and Mayo and in health services research at Dartmouth. She is Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs and Development in the UCSF Department of Surgery. Her clinical practice focuses on minimally invasive techniques in colorectal surgery.
