Did you read the article about how midwives keep birth normal (Kennedy and Shannon, 2004), or the one on the experience of caring for a septic premie (Rubarth, 2003)? In almost every JOGNN issue you will find reports like these that involve qualitative research methods. The investigator usually collects interviews, diaries, or field notes, and analyzes text rather than numbers, to produce a summary of the experience or situation, often illustrated with quotations and examples. As a long time qualitative researcher, I am writing this editorial to share my views on really useful qualitative research findings.
